The Sheriffs Regional Training Division is continually seeking qualified individuals to serve in our many different instructional services programs. If you have an interest in serving as a classroom instructor or with our Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Emergency Vehicle Operations, or Scenario Proctor Team, we would enjoy hearing from you. We employ instructional staff from all over our Service Region with hopes of providing broad base experience and knowledge to our students.
We employ two different categories of instructors. College Certified Instructors are those instructors who meet the minimum California Education Code requirements to teach a vocational subject through a California Community College, generally speaking possess at least an Associates Degree as well as six years of law enforcement experience. College Certified Instructors may instruct any subject in their specialty, and are eligible for compensation increases as their level of education/experience increases.
Assistant Instructors are those instructors who serve under the supervision of a College Certified Instructor, generally in one of our specialty teams such as Defensive Tactics, Firearms, or Emergency Vehicle Operations. Assistant Instructors must possess the requisite POST certified instructor training for those specialties, but do not need an Associates Degree to apply. Assistant Instructors receive a fixed rate of pay and are encouraged to continue their education to become college certified instructors.
Scenario Proctors generally serve as either a College Certified Instructor or Assistant Instructor.
All prospective COLLEGE CERTIFIED, ASSISTANT INSTRUCTORS, or SCENARIO PROCTORS must have completed the POST Academy Instructor Certification Course prior to employment.
Prospective instructors seeking a position as a College Certified Instructor must complete an adjunct faculty application through San Joaquin Delta College. Instructors are not employed through the college, but are certified through SJDC as our parent college.
