Driver Awareness Instructor (DAI)

24-hour course 

This course is designed to train proper presentation skills necessary to present a Driver Awareness Course. Students will gain a comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter, enabling them to train their department personnel required perishable skills training.

Driver Training Instructor (DTI) 

40-hour course

This course is designed to provide student instructors current instructional methods necessary to instruct a POST certified Basic Academy Driver Training course. The course develops the student instructors driving skills, allowing them to successfully demonstrate all required skills necessary to pass the Basic Driver Training course.

Driver Training PIT Instructor 

8-hour course

This course is designed to provide the student with current instructional methods related to pursuit driving and techniques for pursuit intervention. Considers use of force options and California pursuit guidelines. Includes demonstration and behind the wheel exercises involving current strategies. Qualifies student to teach the Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT).

Driver Training (EVOC) Update

8-hour course

The course will provide the trainee with the minimum topics of Driver Training/Awareness required in the POST Perishable Skills Training Program including; Basic Driving Principles, Legal and Moral Aspects, Defensive Driving and Maneuvering Course Exercises. The course consists of a hands-on/practical Driver Awareness/EVOC Update for in-service officers.

Driver Training PIT Certification 

4-hour course

Provide patrol peace officers with the applicable laws and policies pertaining to the Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT). Familiarize students with the ability to use PIT as a tool to terminate pursuits safely and lawfully. Provide information enabling them to determine when and under what circumstances PIT may be authorized.  

 

Driver Awareness Instructor

Prerequisites:

Student must have successfully completed a POST Basic Academy/POST Modules II and currently be employed or retired from a Law Enforcement agency as a full sworn or reserve II Peace Officer. 

Requirements: 

Must be in excellent physical condition and free of any prior injuries that may be aggravated by intensive vehicle weight transfer, braking, turning, or skidding. All students who are not members of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office must sign a liability waiver.

Course Details:

This course is designed to meet the POST requirements for Drivers Awareness Instructor training (D.A.I.). This course of instruction allows the student to teach all facets of vehicle operations relating to vehicle placement, emergency steering and braking, and hazard avoidance to law enforcement, military, fire, ambulance, and civilian students.

Equipment and Attire:

Students should wear suitable clothing, such as long pants (no shorts or skirts), a comfortable shirt and sturdy shoes. Athletic shoes are acceptable. No sandals, high heels, or dress shoes allowed. Recommended: sunscreen, hat and medication for motion sickness, if susceptible. There is limited shade and seating outside of vehicles. It is recommended students bring a sunshade and folding chair.
